How to play Pusoy (Chinese Poker)

Thirteen cards into three rows: five at the back, five in the middle, three in front. Each row has to beat the one in front of it, or the whole hand is forfeit.

Setting the three rows

Everybody is dealt thirteen cards and arranges them at the same time. The back row and middle row are five-card poker hands; the front is three cards and is ranked without straights or flushes.

The order is strict: the back must be at least as strong as the middle, and the middle at least as strong as the front. Setting them out of order is called fouling, and a fouled hand loses all three rows to everybody.

How the scoring works

Every row is compared against the same row of every other player. Each row won is worth one unit, and taking all three from somebody — a scoop — is worth three more.

A hopeless hand can be surrendered instead of played, for a flat three units to each opponent. It is the cheaper of two bad outcomes.

Pusoy is not Pusoy Dos

They are different games and the names are close enough to cause trouble. Pusoy is the thirteen-card game on this page: you split your hand into three and compare rows.

Pusoy Dos is the Philippine version of Big Two — a shedding game where you race to play all your cards. PlayWeya does not have it.

Playing Pusoy online with friends
