How to play In-Between

Two cards go face up and you bet some of the pot that a third falls strictly between them. Between and you take your bet out; outside and you pay the same in.

Landing on one of the two — hitting the post — pays in like a miss, which is why a narrow gap is not free money.

The pot

Everybody buys in once to start the pot. Winning takes chips out of it and missing puts chips in, so the pot breathes as the game runs rather than being settled hand by hand.

An ace is always one, which puts it at the bottom of the order and a king at the top. There is no high-or-low call.

A pair, and the call

Two cards of the same rank leave no gap at all, so instead of a between-bet you call whether the third card is higher or lower. At the very top and bottom of the deck the call is forced, because only one answer is possible.

Playing In-Between with friends

Two to fifteen players. A table can turn the third card the moment the bet is in, or leave it face down until whoever bet taps it themselves — the chips are already down by then, so the tap only reveals.

Play chips only. No cash value, nothing to deposit.
