How to play High Card, and Truth or Dare

One card each, highest wins. The ace is high, and suit is ignored unless the table turns it on.

Set to the drinking game, it runs the other way: the lowest card drinks. Switch Truth or Dare on and whoever drinks then picks one, and gets a prompt.

The drinking game

No chips, no pot, no ledger. Everybody gets one card, the lowest one drinks, and that is the round. If two people tie at the bottom the table decides in advance whether they both drink or take another card each until one of them is lowest.

The app says who drinks and never how much. That part is for the room, not for a program.

Truth or Dare

Whoever drinks is asked Truth or Dare, picks one, and is given a single prompt. Everybody at the table sees which they picked and what they got — that is the point of playing it in a room rather than off a list.

They get one re-draw, so a prompt nobody wants is not the end of it, and the table can see it was re-drawn. Tap Done and the next hand deals.

The four prompt decks

The host chooses which decks are in play. Any combination, and at least one.

Casual — silly, harmless, and safe for anybody at the table.
Party — louder, and about the people in the room.
Spicy — crushes, flirting and dating.
No Filter — exes, jealousy and the questions people avoid.

Casual and Party are on by default. Spicy and No Filter are for a table that has agreed to them.

Some of the prompts

A few from each deck, so you know what you are turning on:

Casual truth — What is your most useless talent?
Casual dare — Invent a dance move and give it a name.
Party truth — Who here would you call first if you got arrested?
Party dare — Give your most dramatic toast to the group.
Spicy truth — What is your ideal first date?
Spicy dare — Give the winner an absurdly romantic compliment.
No Filter truth — Have you ever tried to make someone jealous on purpose?
No Filter dare — Give a fake five-star review of yourself as a date.

There are four hundred in total, and the table draws them rather than reading down a list — so nobody knows what is coming, including the person who set the game up.

Playing it with friends

Up to fifteen at a table, everyone on their own phone, nothing to install. Made for a room where people are already together — the cards are on the screen and the game is in the room.
